Sometime on or before 2008.07.15 Bungie released seven "hidden wallpapers" which were accessed by clicking on a sidebar image which would appear on Bungie.net. This was extensively covered in the B.Net
Official Hidden Wallpapers Thread, and has been brought to the attention of the SGP most recently by Pulse Cloud in
this post. The B.Net thread from the 15th was then featured two days later in
Bungie's Weekly Update for 2008.07.18.
Please use this SGP Topic for further discussion of the wallpapers and their relation to other ODST elements we have discovered since the game's release.
The collection of wallpapers contain overlapping instances of data. There is at least one piece of data which exists in all seven and can be used to order the wallpapers: the "SUBLIMINAL MESSAGE" string. The reads "< SUBLIMINAL MESSAGE 0x >" where "x" is replaced by a unique single digit on each wallpaper. This "Wallpaper ID", if you will, ranges from 1-7. The OP of the B.Net thread (alontorres) rightly ordered the wallpapers using this ID, and I will do the same here.
I also recommend a shorthand method of referring to these wallpapers, consistent with our methods for identifying districts (Dxx) and missions (CM:xx and FF:xx): WPxx. e.g. "WP04" would refer to the ">> OBEY POSTED LIMITS <<" wallpaper which contains the text "< SUBLIMINAL MESSAGE 04 >"
For reference (without having to visit the B.Net thread every time), here are direct links to each wallpaper:
WP01:
>> PLEASE REMAIN CALM <<WP02:
>> HITCHHIKERS MAY BE ESCAPING INMATES <<WP03:
>> YELLOW MEANS YIELD <<WP04:
>> OBEY POSTED LIMITS <<WP05:
>> TAKE IT TO MAKE IT <<WP06:
>> NO PUBLIC ACCESS <<WP07:
>> MIND THE GAP <<As I mentioned previously, these wallpapers "contain overlapping instances of data". These pieces of data will also need names and perhaps even shorthand references. I'm thinking DE:xxyy for "Data Element" where "xx" is an alpha code corresponding to the data element name and the "yy" is an optional number for cases where there are multiple versions.

There are more that will need naming. We can start a thread for each one of these data elements over in
Task Force: 7 as we name them.
