The most useful site I have found concerning Daily/Weekly challenges in Reach is British blogger Matthew Vose's "Halo Reach Daily Challenges", hosted by WordPress:

Now to the topic at hand...

Yesterday's challenge, "Golden Opportunity", had me taking a break from building our new content system to actually play the game for a bit. As you probably know, the description for this challenge reads:

Find and kill the Gold Ranger-class Elite in any Campaign mission on Heroic or harder

After some Google searching, I learned that this challenge had previously appeared on Jan 30.  Matthew documented it back then on his blog here:

As far as I know, it has only appeared these two times.  Please update us on other dates if you find them.

The good news regarding this challenge is that it prompted me to get some great in-game footage of all three of the BOB spawns on Winter Contingency.  I also now understand what makes them spawn, and what makes them begin their game-engine script to eventually disappear.  More on that later.

The bad news is that I feel we missed a "Golden Opportunity":  this challenge provides an unprecedented method to ACTUALLY CONFIRMING what Bungie considers to be a BOB, and what is not:  if you don't get the challenge when you kill it, it's not a BOB, right?

So why in Gherjsz's Green Earth did I not think to go after the Boosting Banshees instead?

Dear SGP members:  please provide all you can (films on your file share would be perfect) on how you got this achievement yesterday, if you got it.

I got the challenge twice (multiple gamer tags) on Winter Contingency using two of the three BOBs on Winter Contingency... so I can vouch for those.

You can reproduce it whenever you want just like the Tri-glyph (you have to die inside D04 to make it appear, in case someone didn't know)?

I didn't really bother even doing the challenge, but if I had remembered this, I would've thought again.

Hopefully this isn't Bob's only purpose, and that there will be a Vidmaster someday.

I had thought about perhaps going after one of the Boosting Banshees, but I recall a different challenge that was to be completed by killing one.  Looking back on it, I really should have taken the ten minutes to load Exodus at Checkpoint Bravo.

I did, however, obtain a very smooth video of the BOB on Tip of the Spear.  I already linked to it, and hopefully homer will find it.  Well, here it is again anyway, if anyone wants to render it.

Great idea CG.

I suggest all have designated BOBs in case this challenge comes up again. NA Bobshee, Exodus Bobshee, ONI White BOB. Multiple people can have each, so if one person cannot make it, the other can.
We really do not want to pass up an opportunity like this.

Aruseus's Reach secrets group (requires b.net login) has an update on this front:

I have now killed a BOB on every campaign level. Kind of disappointing nothing happens. I guess I will move onto the switches. I killed them mixxed between legendary and normal difficulties. And the Lone Wolf BOB I had to kill on easy.
I confirmed the BOB on Exodus with the Goledn Opportunity Challenege yesterday. I killed the boosting banshee flying overhead after taking the pelican ride. Completed the challenege. I also made sure I killed the right New Alexandria banshee with the same challenege a few days ago. I have medals on every other campaign mission.
Where do we go next? I don't want this mission to die down. I want a new ending or new armor unlock or something. Bungie is counting on the community.

Remember that this Vidmaster might not be just some secret. It might be the same case as with H3: The Vidmaster is released later (or did it ship with the disc?).

So yeah, we could do this, but we must remember that if there is no counter-reaction from the game, it might be because the Achievement is still not released. This doesn't stop us from making a tactics guide, however!
