SGP: Ghost Chasers / Cartographers - Dumpster Diving
« on: October 06, 2009, 06:11:59 »
I played around with jumping in a dumpster during my second day of playing ODST.  I figured the "Keep it Clean!" marketing was a clear lead in that direction.

When I discovered the Magic Wall, I was pleased that it was adjacent to an upright trash can.  I still feel this is significant.

Well over on the Big Forum folks are trying out dumpster diving in more complex ways than I ever did.  People are stumbling on glyph resets in the process.  Perhaps the dumpsters / trash cans / oliphants are something worth considering in the context of glyph hunting.  If so, we may wish to map their locations.

Just a thought.

It looks like they were able to wipe the glyphs off squidhenge by dumpster diving.  If that's repeatable we should get some picture evidence, or better youtube.  How can I capture vids like that if Theatre mode won't let me take vids?

I do this a lot on co-op, nothing. So if this turns up anything it's definitely something to only be done on solo.

You can use the Render to Video minutes on Bungie.net.  I believe that you get like 3 or 4 minutes of rendered footage free and then you have to pay.

Since that post, we've seen many more instances of the Squidhenge glyphs disappearing.  They tend to "glitch out" (disappear) during Theater Mode replays, for instance- independently of how they appeared in-game at the time.  This alone leads me to believe this is a graphics glitch and not a mysterious Easter Egg clue.  Of course that's just my opinion.  For me, the appearance of the Sad SuperMono glyph on Squidhenge is clue enough.

Something for anyone interested to try:

Go to squidhenge.
Mess around for a while.
Go through door D06-008 (see map) to access the adjacent building interiors.
Mess around for a while.
Return to Squidhenge.
Mess around for a while.
Exit the game and view it in Theater Mode.

In Theater Mode, switch to Floating Camera Mode by hitting the Y button.
Observe Squidhenge as you mess around and then leave to enter the buildings.
Check to see if the glyphs change at all.   IIRC, this sort of action was what led me to see the glyphs glitch out and then even reappear.
